3:30pm Christmas lunch, 2025 absolutely delicious, all three courses. The complementary bubbles set the scene for a lovely festive, atmospheric late lunch!! Lou did us proud. Couldn’t have asked for more, highly recommend 😊

We ate there recently and had a lovely meal and great service. They did however appear to have ramped up their prices - their website pricing for food was less than the menu on the night (eg £17.50 for a pie but £20 on the night). This has now been corrected with the right prices showing but i was disappointed/ the increase in price seemed significant in just a few months of last visiting.

The food here is consistently excellent; however, this evening I had a very disappointing and unacceptable encounter with two members of the management team, whilst I was in the company of my two-year-old (who was, I should note, very well behaved). They spoke to me aggressively in what felt like a two-pronged attack. I found them to be extremely intimidating, to put it literally, rushing at me and raising their voices. This level of aggression and intimidation is unnecessary and I found it upsetting. [*RESPONSE TO MANAGEMENT'S REPLY BELOW*] To set some facts straight here for the wider audience. I left the restaurant with my two-year-old, who grew restless at the table and wanted to go home, to wait in the car whilst my parents settled the bill. Whilst sitting in the car, she mistakenly leant on the horn and found it funny, and for no longer than 40 seconds she continued to beep the horn whilst giggling (the reason I can be so specific here is because I was recording her). I am not disputing that the sound of a car horn is unsettling and childish; however, where I take issue with this incident is how the staff addressed the situation. I would also like to point out that they must have 'super power speed' to have been able to cover a pub and received such complaints after the point at which customers would have noticed the beeping, all within the space of 40 seconds. Furthermore, were it not for the fact that the restaurant was so excessively hot from multiple fires to the point that guests were sweating, they would not have had to open windows in late November; which is a poor judgment on the restaurant's part, whose staff were serving only in t-shirts. The two women ran at our car, aggressively shouting 'WIND DOWN YOUR WINDOW RIGHT NOW,' which I found frankly intimidating with a young child sat with me. I take issue with their rude, aggressive, and intimidating manner. As my mother was leaving the restaurant, they were so engrossed in their own conversation they did not hear her call over to them three times, her intention to also address the situation; and she too was met with what she described as aggression and rudeness. When encountering problems at other restaurants, as everyone has had the experience of, I have only been met with accommodating and empathetic staff. This incident serves as a clear warning: should you take any issue at this establishment, you risk being met with the same level of aggression and intimidation I experienced. Despite this incident, I would like to finish by reiterating how excellent the food has only ever been here.

Staff are amazing, food was lovely. I had the game pie. The only reason I gave 4* and not 5* was purely down to there being too much salt in the gravy which did make it not as enjoyable to eat as I had hoped. Everything else was spot on.

Absolutely amazing food. Both times we have been, the dishes were delicious. Excellent pairing with a very good Romanian red. The atmosphere is cosy and intimate, log fires and wooden beams make this an authentic traditional pub. Service was very good. We will be back!

My absolutely favourite pub and restaurant in this area. Great atmosphere, great music, great service and a delicious menu all made from scratch by the chefs. The food was SO GOOD! We liked the local beer and ales on tap too. Both locals and tourists enjoying the pub and restaurant. I wish this was my local pub.

We recently hosted our engagement party at this pub, and it was absolutely perfect from start to finish. My fiancé and I wanted a calm, easy-going, and inviting atmosphere for the day, and that’s exactly what we got – and so much more. The staff were genuinely incredible – attentive, friendly, and so on top of everything. A true 10/10. Something that really sells a place for me is the atmosphere and the service, and both were absolutely faultless. The space was warm, welcoming, and had that ideal mix of relaxed and celebratory. It created the perfect backdrop for such a special moment in our lives. All of our guests commented on how lovely the setting was, how smooth everything ran, and how relaxed they felt throughout the event. The staff went above and beyond to make sure everyone was happy, and it truly showed. We were able to enjoy the day fully without a single worry – just laughter, love, and good vibes all around. If you’re thinking of hosting a special occasion here – do it. We couldn’t have asked for a better place or better people to help us celebrate. Thank you again for making our engagement party so unforgettable!

Best open top rabbit pie in Oxfordshire! Lovely pub interior and the elevated garden at the back is a must if sunny or warm at least. A pleasant 10 minute walk down the road at dusk makes an exciting rabbit 🐰 and deer 🦌 spotting experience.

Very lovely place hidden in the middle of the fields. Food was absolutely delicious and service very attentive but not annoyingly attentive which is good! Show stopper for me was unexpected honeycomb cheesecake. I am usually not Big fan of cheesecakes because it’s too sweet and sickly fattening but not this cheesecake. Super balanced flavours of sourness and sweetness. On top of that felt soo light. Love it

The Highwayman is a fantastic British pub in the heart of Oxfordshire with a magical terrace and garden and its dog friendly too! What sets it apart however is the service, a fantastic menu with spectacular dishes is served by attentive and knowledgeable staff with character and professionalism. The Monday pizza is a great addition to an already wonderful venue. Thanks to Lou and her team.
